my new baby

Let me introduce you to my new baby: a rose gold Crosley x Urban Outfitters record player. Can you hear me swooning? If you know me well, you'll second my addiction to music. Not producing it as such - although I've tried dipping my toe into the water of music producing it always seems to go a bit wrong - well, really wrong, but we won't go into details. I just listen to it a bit obsessively. (Some cheeky promo here but pretty please add me on spotify: esme_madeline for monthly playlists!! <3) When I started thinking about getting a vinyl player I got quite a bit of opposition - "but what about your phone?", "will you really use it though?" "but aren't records, like, sooooo expensive?" The thing is, I can't tell you how lovely it is to a have a thing. A tangible copy of whatever album or single, something to hold and put down and keep. A record of your music taste in records. (yes esme, pun game strong) And its sort of oddly fascinating to watch it crackle to life, and listen to the music fade out and in. Nope, the sound quality is definitely not as good but there's something quite charming and characterful about the odd little crackle in it (I don't sound too pretentious, do I?!) I'm definitely not a record snob yet - I will just as happily jam to some vintage Beyonce on a speaker as I would on my record player. But it's lovely to have the option. Also, I find the idea of spending my Saturdays browsing Rough Trade among bearded hipsters quite entertaining.

I'd say that the only downfall is the price of records, and of the player. Although the record player itself was my christmas present, records  are nauseatingly expensive, and will probably in time bankrupt me. I cri.   :,(  Although it sucks up all my money, I am head over heels in love with it. My Dad gave me his old collection of 45 inch singles from the 80's, and I'm really enjoying delving into them. (pick of the day from ma dad's old collection: siouxsie and the banshees, hong kong garden). Plus I've got a few of my own 75 inch albums, which have been on replay as well.

And finally, if this hasn't convinced you, just look at the rose gold detailing. *HEART EYES*
